How the projected release date is built
- Start with the sentence imposed and the date the federal sentence commences.
- Apply prior custody (jail) credit for qualifying time already served under 18 U.S.C. ยง 3585(b).
- Subtract Good Conduct Time at 54 days per year of the sentence imposed.
- Apply First Step Act earned time credits, capped at 365 days toward early release.
- Apply an RDAP reduction of up to 12 months if eligible and the program is completed.

What is a projected release date?
It is the BOP's current estimate of the date a person will leave federal custody, assuming they stay incident-free and continue earning credits. It moves if discipline, program status, or credit eligibility changes.
Why does my BOP release date differ from this projection?
The most common causes are jail credit that has not yet been posted, a different FSA earning rate than assumed, lost good conduct time, or non-earning periods such as writ transfer, furlough, or segregation.
